Program Details

Kindergarten

The Kindergarten recreational soccer program runs for 9 weeks with one-hour Saturday sessions conducted by professional trainers. The introductory program is an excellent opportunity for families to learn more about soccer and to become involved in their child’s play from the start. Parents are urged to volunteer at this level, especially if they plan to coach or assistant coach in the upper soccer divisions.

The clinic is designed not only to teach the children the basics of soccer, but also to train parent coaches’ proper coaching techniques and safety skills. Volunteer coaches aid the trainers in conducting soccer drills and organizing the children as they are first introduced to the sport.

  • One-hour instructional clinics on Saturday morning
  • 9 week program
  • USR provides a t-shirt and size #3 soccer ball
  • Parents should purchase shin guards & soccer cleats

Grades 1 - 2

At the 1st and 2nd grade level, children are still getting familiar with the sport, and the goal is to reinforce many of the basics. Games have referees, are run in a 6v6 format with substitutes, and are scheduled in an intramural fashion within USR (usually at Reynolds School) – no travel. Game play is instructional with one coach per team allowed to walk on the field while instructing players.

Weekly games are supplemented by organized clinics run by professional trainers on a weeknight. Additional team practices are scheduled and conducted by the volunteer coaches and assistants. The season begins on the Tuesday after Labor Day, September 3rd, and runs through the final game on November 3rd.

Additionally, the format includes playoffs that run into November and potential for games on weeknights or Friday nights mid-season. Game format is 7v7, 9v9, and 11v11, respectively for the 3 age groups. Weekly games are supplemented by organized clinics run by professional trainers on a weeknight (except for 7th/8th grade).
